Abhishek Poddar: Democratising Art

Great art finds its true purpose when it is no longer hidden away in dark vaults but instead seen and experienced. It is in this revelation that the power of art to inspire, connect people, and chronicle life itself truly comes to life. Abhishek Poddar, a business leader and philanthropist, embarked on his art collection journey as a teenager in school. After several decades, fueled by his frustration with the absence of quality museums in India and the resulting disinterest in art among the general populace, he established the Museum of Art and Photography in Bengaluru. Remarkably, this endeavor was launched just as the COVID-19 pandemic struck, turning the museum’s inauguration into an exemplar of innovation. During a conversation with INK Founder Lakshmi Pratury, Mr. Poddar expounds on his vision for the museum, the creation of one of the most extensive digitized art collections, and his ambitious mission to create a comprehensive encyclopedia of Indian art.
