Joi Barua

Joi Barua is an Indian artist whose music encompasses Rock, Soul, Jazz & World Music. His original music is inspired by folklore, mythology & the history of North East India. He works in the Indian Movie Industry as a Composer/Singer and has been part of genre defining & multi award winning films such as Dev D, Udaan, Zindagi na Milegi Dobara, Margarita With A Straw & Laila Majnu. 

He has lately been involved with the London Symphony Orchestra & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – London, in creating Orchestral Music around a story of Artificial Intelligence & future life. His forays into understanding Assamese ethnicity have taken him into the histories of Assam’s plural tribal identity in particular, and the North East Of India, in general.

Joi Barua has also been an active voice in speaking up for the Rain Forests and the conservation of forest belts in the North East of India, and the indigenous identities of its citizens.

Recently Joi Barua has been involved with the Indian Army in developing anthems around critical wars & warzones of the last century. He is also developing the current theme song for the India Inclusion Summit which brings together people with all kinds of disabilities in the Indian diaspora and works at solutions.
