As a social entrepreneur, Manvendra is committed to the long term renewal of places where their family has invested in the creation or restoration of tourism destinations: Suryagarh in Jaisalmer, Narendra Bhawan in Bikaner, and Mary Budden Estate in Binsar. By restoring forts and palaces that have fallen into disrepair, their projects act as catalysts for curating contemporary cultural hubs. By serving as incubation labs, these culture hubs foster collaboration and inspire innovation within their local communities.
Over the course of his entrepreneurial journey, he has understood the value of building institutions to address systemic change. To scale the impact of their catalytic projects, and to connect with like-minded individuals and institutions, Manvendra established ‘The Love Foundation’ in 2013. Through this platform, they have managed to complete 30 community projects, including civic clean-ups and conservation campaigns. The Foundation’s work in helping initiate India’s first citizen-airline partnership in Jaisalmer was particularly pleasing, as it successfully demonstrated the value of co-operation and partnership. Collectively, their projects have had a tangible and positive impact by fostering pride and social consciousness in local communities.
For the past decade, he has immersed myself in their ‘moonshot’ (or some may say ‘Earthshot’): Dhun. Dhun is envisioned as an intentional community and sustainable habitat for 8,500 individuals. Their mission is to foster continuous learning, holistic well-being, and the realization of individuals’ true potential. Together with the help of a small, dedicated team, and the support of several partners, they have transformed 500 acres of barren land into a flourishing ecosystem.
Now, their mission at Dhun is to reimagine traditional knowledge systems, celebrate local craftsmanship, and promote regenerative practices. By incorporating the region’s cultural heritage and stories, they provide a unique and enriching experience for inhabitants. Dhun reflects his passion for regeneration, community, and the exploration of human potential. By building a shared vision, and through collective effort, Dhun will be a catalyst for the built environment and ecosystem restoration.
